Istanbul is a good starting point for the rest of north-west Türkiye. Many visitors add a few days in the green lake district around Sapanca, the old Ottoman capital Bursa, or the battlefields near Çanakkale. A private transfer takes you there directly from the airport or your hotel, with your luggage, without changing buses.
Popular destinations and approximate drive times
- Sapanca and Kartepe: about 1.5–2 hours from Sabiha Gökçen, a little more from Istanbul Airport.
- Bursa and Uludağ: about 2–2.5 hours via the Osmangazi Bridge across the Gulf of İzmit.
- Yalova: about 1.5 hours by road.
- Bolu and Lake Abant: about 3 hours.
- Edirne: about 2.5–3 hours towards the Greek and Bulgarian borders.
- Çanakkale, Gallipoli and Troy: about 4–5 hours.
Times depend heavily on traffic leaving Istanbul, especially on Friday afternoons and before public holidays.
